Samsung to pay Apple over $548 million

A US court has asked Samsung to pay Apple more than $548 million for patents and designs infringement. In 2012 Apple was awarded a $930 million in a law suit against Samsung which was reduced by $382 million last May.

The company said in a statement by a spokeswoman "We are disappointed that the court has agreed to proceed with Apple's grossly exaggerated damages claims regardless of whether the patents are valid."

According to Reuters, Samsung has accepted to make the payment by December 14 but is appealing the judgement at the US Supreme Court and expects to be reimbursed if the company succeeds with the appeal.

South Korea-based Samsung also said it reserved the right to be reimbursed in the future if a decision by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office invalidating one of the Apple patents in the case, related to touchscreen gestures, is upheld.

Apple intends to appeal that ruling and said in court documents it "disputes Samsung's asserted rights to reimbursement."
