Protect young children from inappropriate internet use



The number of young children on the internet has tripled in the last ten years and so are their usage from 4.4 hours a week in 2005 to 11.2 hours a week 2015, children are spending more time online than watching TV according to a report by Ofcom titled Children and Parents: Media Use and Attitudes. Most of these young ones are not mentally ready to deal with the virtual world.

Use the following below to protect your children from inappropriate internet use.

Be nearby and regularly check what they are doing
Your eyes should be on what they are doing online. Sit beside them  when they are online

Ask what they are doing and have been doing online
When you move away from them, intermittently ask them what they are doing online 

Check browser history after they have been online
You can go to the browser history to check the websites they have visited and you can also see the most visited.

Who are they chatting with
If you allow your children to chat online be sure they are chatting with actual real friends not virtual friends, no strangers, no adults.

Private is private
Teach your child to not give private informations online, home address, school, phone numbers, parents schedule, parents income and other confidential information.

Install safeguards and content filters
There are safeguard softwares that knock off contents such as nudity, language, violence and sex. Your browser also has some of these settings, use them
